course had no grass on fairways
it was a very difficult course and what made it harder and disappointing was that the fairways were all gold and dried out so very difficult to see were the ball was. Other than that was fun to get out there too bad the conditions were so bad.
Horrible
Course is in poor condition. Little or no maintenance in anticipation of building custom homes. Supposed to close early next year. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to the sky course.
Nice Pete Dye course - excellent greens
I went to Lost Canyons to play the Shadow course , however it was dried out and all the grass was brown. However the Sky course was open and was in excellent shape. greens were beautiful and tricky. The fairways are wide, firm and green.
Very beautiful scenic location.
The course is was great and each hole is unique. 5 sets of tees so all levels can enjoy this nice Pete Dye course
Not worth the value
I was very disappointed on the conditions of the fairways. They Distroyed the fairways by not watering them and letting dry up!!! They are converting the course to built homes. The fairways are dried up hitting of sand and dead straw not grass and letting everything die!!! The greens are a joke, dried up spots, sand bunkers are full of dirt. The course is a ghost town and not worth, the time, money, or travel/drive to play for $14 bucks. I wish you could refund my fee's since golfnow.com still has this course on its web site!!!!!!!! It look nothing what the pictures reflect!!!! Totally disappointed!!!!!!!
This course needs attention
It seems as if the course has been let go. The fairways are golden brown and have not seen water in quite some time. Tee boxes have not been attended to.
its a shame that shadow course wasn't maintained.
course was nice and challenging. back tee locations were great as were the greens. greens were undulating so if you didn't get it up higher enough it rolled back to you or rolled to the other side. really want to go again but probably on a cooler day.
This course is dry and they don't offer a map, you don't know where you are hitting, and no water!!
I think for as expensive as this course is (the most expensive in Simi Valley), they are one of the worst in offering amenities. Pack a lot of water and a snack, no water and no beverage cart! Oh and drive up to scout the holes because they offer no maps with their carts...very disappointed.
Course layout was good if the fairway could be survived.
The course lay out was good but all grass on the fairway was dead. Fairway is only ground without grass. I don't know why they are managing the course ?
Fairways are dead
OK, I admit I read the blogs about this course before playing, and still thought it might be a good value (our time was super cheap). However, it's hard to play to fairways that are not "dormant", but dead. The cushion underneath dries up and you end up with 1/8" dead straw over hard ground. A challenge to keep most shots from running out into the hazards. The employees state that there is a water issue, only enough for the big Sky course. Greens were well kept, but perched on cliffs and ledges. Traps had thin layer of sand, then hard pan. Interesting to be able to hit a drive on a par 5 that caught a slope and rolled out to 385 yards. You could probably play this course in a links style, hitting low lofted running shots. With water, this course would still play to 140 slope from the mid tees.
Fairways are super dry and yellow.
Best part about the Shadow course is that it is cheap to play. That said, if you are not used to hitting off rock hard fairways with no green grass, you may find this course repulsive, as did my friend. He was so frustrated that he would not return even if they were to pay him to play there again. But for the price I am not complaining, though I would prefer see some patch of grass in the fairway.
Ornelas
I thought they should of let us know when we booked tee time that course hasn't been watered. Talk to greens keeper said he got his layoff notice for 3 months.Fairways have totally been let go .Greens were still in great shape.Just wish I would of played course when it was taken care of .
IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND BALL
The greens here are in amazing shape. Everything else made it feel like a zombieland. I played alone. No one in sight and it would have been great with some actual grass. Hitting off those fairways was like hitting off the cart path. It was sad really.
Worst course in ventura county
Shadow corse ins a joke... Course has not been watered in months, we literatly played on dirt.. Not worth the 78 bucks I paid... Will never golf there again... Course was so bad we only made it to the 7th hole....
Do not play this course. Shadow course
Do not play this course. The greens are good but they have not watered this course in months. There is no green anywhere. You play on dirt. Not worth the $25 i paid. If you value your clubs, do not go there.
Very sad since this was one of my favorate courses.
aweful!
not worth any money everything is DEAD! they havent watered in months because they are selling the land! would rather play on asphalt!
Expect rain to come this area, the values jump up high
Fairway is dried up like British open course so the distance increased. Hah hah. Green is pretty good condition most of holes. Putting is not easy as it look. I like this course.
shadow course continues its decline. hard pan fairways everywhere. dusty, dry and brutal.
gave an average value for money rating as i got a deal for $10, which surprisingly included range balls. the water i bought cost $2.25. the unfortunate thing is, that is about what the play is worth. great for practice if you want to hit off hard pan and the greens are still great, but when it is difficult, if not impossible to find good shots the day becomes a joke. saw maybe six other people all day. you will loose many balls, but also can find plenty if you don't mind a little hike or two. mind those snakes.
Horrible Course Conditions
Live in Simi Valley and have been hearing about how horrific Lost Canyons Shadow Course has become. I have heard that they are letting the entire course die to make room for real-estate opportunities. So, i figured id check it out for myself and sure enough, the course was dreadful!! Fairways were practically dirt and the traps and greens weren't taken care of. Course was extremely challenging but not having fairways to hit from made it that much more difficult. If you play Lost Canyons please, please avoid this course and play the better maintained Sky course!!
ugly golf course
This is hardly belivable conditon to play.this is not california. this moon.
this course has great views
Very tough but beautiful course. Well kept and challenging greens .
