Drought changes things
Greens and Tees are in good condition. The drought in So Cal has the course not watering fairways so they were pretty rough.
Old course needs some love.
While this was a really interesting course, it is very clear the owners are not interested in maintaining it as a valuable playing experience. The drought seems to have been especially hard on this track, but the course could take some steps to improve the quality of the course that are not water-related, namely, tame the trees. I am all for tree placement that requires decision making and strategy, but the trees on this course are overgrown and out of control.
There is very little grass anywhere, including the fairways, and some of the greens are unputtable from certain lines. The course will definitely improve when and if the drought breaks, but all the water in the world isn't going to solve the overgrown tree problem. I suggest Castle Creek or Eagle Crest if you are looking for a course around the same price point.
Fallbrook
The course was extremely brown. The pace of play was extremely slow.
Water restrictions
The last time I played here the greens were nice and tee boxes were neat. This time around the tee boxes were overgrown and spotty. The greens were the best thing out there but that's not saying much. The water restrictions have ruined this course for me.
Fallbrook Golf
It's along course dirt at some areas but fun. I played at 11 and finished around 3. Lots of straight shots needed here. Also if you're hitting from the blue on a few holes you need the distance to clear the gaps. All in all fun course good to have variety.
Fallbrook GC
I've played this course many times in the past, but it had been awhile. Course layout is still the same and offers a good challenge no matter your skill level. Price point was phenomenal, so VERY hard to pass up. However, I will rethink this next time if the course remains in its current condition. It was in severe need of mowing, weeding, rolling and overall upkeep. Tee boxes were uneven and needed to be moved up or back from the current spot that seemed to have been in the same spot all summer. Greens were ok, but I'm guessing players in front of me deemed it unnecessary to fix their ball marks because the fairways leading up to the greens were in such terrible condition. Still, all players should live by the adage to repair your own ball marks and at least one more. Not so here. I would consider going back again if I knew the course had just been mowed.
Better courses for a few bucks more
Fairways were not in good shape. Staff blamed drought conditions. Other areas of the course were outdated and in poor condition. Cart paths were rough. Hitting mats on the driving range were torn and worn out. Cart seats had tears and rips. If you want to save a few bucks this is the place for you but other than the greens everything needs help.
Needs to improve golf carts
Pace a little slow, but that may be attributed to the fact that the golf carts appear to need a deffinate upgrade. Every time I've played here over the last month someone's golf cart has died on the course...
Course in need of simple maintenance and cleanup...
Am sensitive to the challenge of operating any course in light of cost of water etc...however I would recommend some simple steps to enhance the experience at Fallbrook.
1- Inexpensive signs for directions to tee boxes.
2 - Sponsor a couple of clean up days for volunteers to get a comp round of golf and some refreshments for volunteers to help clean up all the dead wood, branches, leaves etc that are all over the course. Some unpaid volunteer manpower and some trucks to haul the stuff away would truly help all paying customers and probably enable the course to raise their prices. Right now, with the exception of the greens (which are pretty good)....this course is littered with dangerous debris and kindling wood
Very nice traditional, tree lined golf course.
If you have a power fade or can hit it straight you have a definite advantage over someone like me that draws the ball. The mature over hanging trees make the course a real challenge. The front (supposedly easier) side ate my lunch; but with some adjustments on the back got me back to a normal 4 over nine. I will definitely play this course again to enjoy the scenery and to get even with my poor front nine performance.
Excellent course! Friendly staff.
My second time playing Fallbrook. What a pleasure. It was everything I could wantt in a golfing experience. The staff is incredibly kind and friendly. Plan on going back.
Beautiful course
Challenging course with beautiful oak tree lined fairways - some a quite narrow.
FunCourse
aways a lot of fun. trees make it a challenge.course is aways in good condition and great pricing.
Lots of trees on this course
This course was a good time, but def not for the novice. Great challenge, but bring plenty of balls!
An old pasture-like course
Played Fallbrook G.C. a few times now. If a Resort course is at one end of the golf course spectrum, then, this is at the other end. The look is what you would expect from a very rural type course. While it does not remotely approach a manicured course, it does offer a more natural pasture-like layout. There is a mixture of wide fairways with some narrow ones. Similarly, a couple elevated tee-shots are mixed in with a couple uphill fairways with elevated greens. Most of it is flat though. Fittingly, cement cart paths are virtually non-existent which again lends itself to the rural pasture-like setting. For whatever reason there a several tee and/or approach shots with large trees (tree limbs) that must be negotiated. At least everyone in our foursome went through a tree during our round. While this makes sense when they are on the fringes of a golf course--it just seemed to be a bizarre, unnecessary hazard for the most part. With the trees come lots of leaves, but there was only one green (the 11th par 3) that should have had a leave blower by the greenside to help clear the debris off the green. If you want a laid-back round and don't mind the absence of anything remotely related to a nice resort course, then, you should try this at least once. They actually do have a posted collared shirt and minimum short height code posted. So, you'll have to leave your overalls at home. Btw--There are no cows, so, you don't have to worry about that hazard.
Fallbrook review
This is a course I have played many times. It remains an enjoyable test of a golfer's the skill. Condition was pretty good considering the restricted watering these days. The sycamores are beautiful and greens are flat and reasonably fast. Always fun to hit your first shot over the road! I recommend it.
Great value for the money
Strategically placed trees make for some very challenging shots. The course is on the dry side (but what do you expect with the drought), but a fun course. How can you beat a $29 round on a holiday! Well worth the money.
Stay away and save your money
I was so disappointed by this course that I went to play again the same day somewhere else. This course was so bad that I almost wanted to go ask for my money back.
The ONLY thing that was good at this course was the greens. By the way I didn't want to eat there thinking the food was just as bad and I didn't want to get sick.
Every cart path has more pot holes than the last one. And they are filled with muddy water. I had to clean my golf bag because it was splashed with mud.
There are some tee boxes, tee boxes and green that are right next to the main road and when a car comes driving through the quiet canyon road it makes for a disturbing round of golf.
That day I played the workers decided to use a chain saw to finish cutting a tree that fell a long time ago. Chain saws and golf don't mix especially on a Sunday.
If you don't think my review is fair go play your favorite course and then play here, better yet drive by and look for yourself.
And, No I would not recommend this course to a friend
Nice day
I was able to meet a friend and play for the first time with them. It was a great day. Staff was extremely nice when greeting us and when I purchased items in golf shop. Great conditions considering the heat & water shortage! Would definitely play course again!
Fairways were a little dry
Fairways were a little dry but with all the water restrictions it's understandable.
