The Fountain is one of two 18-hole golf courses at the Welk Resort San Diego. The other course, the Oaks, is an 18-hole, par-3 course that is great short-game practice for all skill levels. Although the Fountain is an executive-length course, it is as formidable as most full-length golf courses. Even low handicappers will be tested by the narrow layout, which covers a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. In addition to a slew of strategically placed bunkers and trees that demand accuracy, water hazards also come into play on a few holes. There are many risk-reward opportunities throughout the course where good strategy will reap many benefits. The golf course has some tricky holes but it is not overly punishing, making it more approachable for a wide range of skill levels.

My son, his father-in-law and I golfed at The Fountain Golf Course at Welk Resort recently. I had not played golf in over 6 years, and the other two play weekly back home. They enjoyed the course and the difficulty of elevation changes, large boulders, sand traps and water. The one thing we all agreed on was how well the course was maintained and manicured. We had so much fun on a Friday morning, we played again on Monday afternoon. This course is fun, eventful, beautiful, and challenging. Yes it is an executive course and lacks par 5 holes, but provides a great golfing experience. We are already planning a trip for next year, and may bring our own clubs next time. This course is for everyone's ability, and you are sure to have fun and lots of laughter.

I don't play executive courses very often because they just aren't challenging enough and the level of golfer on these courses is intermediate at best.. But, this is not the case at the Welk Resort. It has some challenging holes for most levels of golfers and is a fun little course to play. It is in very good shape and the greens are true. A little slow due to the aforementioned golfer level, but not too bad. Finished the round in 4 hours on a weekend afternoon. It was a good enough experience that I will be bringing friends back to play.
