A good public standard.
SGGC is a wonderful place to play a round of golf. Definitely public links standards at a relatively higher standard than most public courses in a beautiful setting.
Great greens
No wind. True greens. Fast pace. Will revisit. Beautiful surroundings
beautiful setting but a challenge
First time to play this course and I will return soon. condition was great for this time of year. And even though there was rain the greens rolled very smooth and true. I recommend this course.
Good Layout
The front 9 and the back 9 are two completely different beasts. The course can play long at times but if you can keep the ball in the fairway and are willing to layup on a few creek crossing holes its not a terribly difficult layout. Spring is the best time to play as the course seems to become real dry in the summer months.
San Geronimo
a tough but beautiful course, need a cart, no fun if windy
It's a shame
What was a tough challenging fun track has really hit rock bottom. Fairways are trashed the rough is awful and too long and inconsistent. 64 to ride was a rip off, they should have payed us to play there...Fivesome in front of us with some wives and dogs in tow didn't help either. Seems like everyone at San G has given up as the course was as bad as I have ever seen what a shame! Finally, when peacock is 5 times better you got problems....
Pure Pleasure
I live in what is considered some of the best golf in the country, Phoenix, AZ. But I have always loved the green lush courses throughout the country. This course did not disappoint! The overall course conditions were excellent! greens are a medium pace, with some deceptive reads but get over it, enjoy the round. Number 13 was my menace, no way to judge whcih direction to play it and so out of bounds I went. I plan to return to the area this summer and will definitely include this course as part of my vacation.
Beautiful Course
Course is in near perfect condition. Beautiful surroundings and challenging layout. To bad there's a busy street in between with a ton of traffic noise which defeats the calm green nature surrounding you.
Gorgeous day, average golf
I booked a tee time on golfnow about an hour and a half ahead of time. I was a single and ended up getting paired up some guys I used to play baseball with, which was great. We were all long hitters so we were constantly waiting for the group infront of us. This wasn't a huge problem as the weather was incredible for early April. By the 3rd hole the marshal came and told us to speed up. We explained that there was no where to go. He looked at us upset like it was our fault. He bugged us later on..but again there was nothing we could do. We all ended up shooting in the 80s so it wasnt like we were hacking around. Anyway the course was wet considering it hadnt rained in over a week. Overall it was an ok day. The course is definately overpriced for what you get. The front 9 is pretty boring but the back is definately more fun.
Decent course left something to be desired
Course has a nice layout with some difficult shots. Felt like it played pretty long. Some areas saturated due to recent heavy rains, surprisingly greens were still firm and fast. Ranger was distracting as he felt the need to ask us a few times to pick up pace although we were not holding up any groups behind us. Aside from that the staff was friendly. All in all it was decent.
Highly (Over) Rated
San Geronimo is a divided course: two 9s separated by a ridge. The front is long and fairly flat, bunkers and green slope contributing to its self-proclaimed "most difficult course in Marin County." The back 9 plays shorter, but has more varied terrain and several holes with blind shots over hills and hazards contributing to its difficulty. Honestly, it is an awkward layout that just doesn't suit my eye.
Right now (March), the course has taken a beating from the crows and gulls -- maybe nocturnal skunks, too -- digging up the grubs in the fairways. The solution they've employed is to drive rakes and slicers over the messes, creating large swaths of dirt in several fairways. Why any course doesn't treat with nematodes that wipe out the grubs is beyond me.
Friendly staff, nice people, mediocre bar with stale, refrigerated sandwiches, limited beer taps. The starters and rangers are nice, but to play a four and a half hour round, FOUR parties let me play through. One ranger said, "I would recommend you never play solo at San Geronimo. A five-hour round is typical."
Great View for the Bucks
I played an early morning round paired with others that never played the course. We played the blue tees which probably saved me more than a couple of strokes. Even from the blue tees hitting driver on most of the holes is a mistake since ball position is at a premium on this course. All par 5's are reachable in 2 with a good tee shot but the long par 4's are brutal if you mishit your tee ball. Greens are moderately fast and roll true. However, subtle breaks around the cup can easily fool you
Pretty course
Course and greens were in good condition after the rains. Some holes are very interesting and many can be challenging for the average golfer
Beautiful day, very fun and challenging course
Had a wonderful time playing this course, which was had lots of interesting and challenging layouts and hazards. Liked that the challenges weren't just super-long holes, but rather really unique geographic features. Numbers 10 and 18 were particularly spectacular.
Two different 9's.
The front side is good old traditional golf, which I like. The back is contrived target golf with many blind shots. The staff is friendly and the course is in good condition, but the back 9 design is a disappointment.
Fairways with a nice view
The course is rebounding nicely after the last rain. Greens are receptive and ready for those who want to go pin hunting.
They should really re-open the tee box on 15. It appears ready.
Great
I like this couse. Everything good fairway still good but green kind of difficult
Overbooked
Took is 3 hours to play 8 holes. It was over booked and an overall joke and a waste of money and time. Will not return there for quite some time.
This course was in poor condition.
The course was full of holes in the fairway on every hole. I stopped one of the workers and he said there was nothing they could do about the holes because they were caused by raccoons. I called next day and told the person at the pro shop my concerns about how there was no grass on the fairways and he said it was because there had been no rain yet. Poor excuse!! I will not be playing here anytime soon!!!
I like this course.
Good staff and a well maintained course. The greens are tough. Pace of play is an issue on some days. But, I keep going back.
