Only if you want great panoramic views
Paid $35 for twilight, could only played 9 holes, but were happy it was over
I knew going in that this course was challenging, but found it is ridiculous. Basic hole consist of tee boxes and small green. Anything else is a hazard. Nothing seems maintained for quite a while. Sand traps are practically unplayable.
The pluses are the beautiful layout and the views.
Views views views
The staff there was incredible. Unfortunately I dont go to the golf course to mingle with the workers.
You are paying for the view at this point. The course condition is not so stellar. EVERY SINGLE BUNKER is over grown. There are SOOOO MANY it is near impossible to avoid them. Even their signature hole, completely overgrown with weeds. This was a 5 hour and 45 minute round! The fairways have MANY dry patches, the tee boxes were uneven. No driving range which anyone who is going to play here needs to know that to have a chance to warmup somewhere else. I would be very unhappy had I paid $100 to play here. For $100 I would expect everything to be in tip-top shape! Even in "drought" conditions, most other courses that charge that make it work! Luckily $50 Hot Deal got me out there.
The views are absolutely stunning that is for sure.
Until course conditions are fixed, I am not sure I can come back. It is a VERY challenging course even before you put all the bad conditions into play.
The greens really quick. Made you feel like youre on the PGA tour.
Definitely worth the money
This course is absolutely beautiful., and the employees were so friendly. The course could use some work, especially with the sand traps, but fairways and greens are in nice shape.
I didn't expect course to be in pebble beach type conditions, and that was exactly the case. The sand traps, need some tlc, i would agree with that. However, the manager did say the are cleaning the bunkers once the spring weather arrives.
I recommend
Handicapping Golf
Must realize this course is elevated on a Hills and valleys. The golfer must know there game intimately to insure a fun day. You have to play it a few times so you know where hazards are and placement is a premium.
How are they in business
I figured that the recent storms would play havoc with course conditions, but every bunker on that course was either overgrown with weeds or reduced to mud. I can't see how much longer this course will be in business!
Great value, excellent service, and a beautiful setting!
We recently played The Ranch Golf Club and were very impressed of the course conditions and quality of service that we received. The Assistant Manager, Reese personally delivered our cart to our car and got us out earlier than our original tee-time. Although the course is somewhat challenging, it is worth every penny and effort you put into it. This course offers the best overall value, beauty and challenge any golfer can hope to expect!
Bunket
Bunker sand is horrible. Need to put a lot of sand
Challenging
This course is challenging. No need for using your new golf balls. Because of the great chance of loosing a few balls on your first few rounds, I suggest that you use your experienced golf balls. Leave your driver in your bag until hole # 4, #6 and then bring it out on the back nine. Every hole is unique.
sand
Everything was nice but the sand in the buckers was gone you had to chip from the bunkers on fast green you need spin. All in all I won't to go back.
Wonderful Views and A Golf Challenge
Course has some of the best views of San Jose. As for the Golf this is a challenging course where i recommend an extra box of balls before teeing off. I enjoy the course layout very much. Each hole has its ups and downs in terms of condition. Some areas have been improved this fall from the summer. Staff has always been friendly. Grab beverages and food prior to tee off, as it is a challenge to get back to the clubhouse after hole 11, then back to the course. Fair price when its a nice sunny day for golf and great views.
Beautiful course
The elevations on this course were incredible but the course conditions were pathetic. The greens had dead grass spots through out the course making it impossible to actually make a put and the sand traps were full of rocks ,grass and really no sand.If this course was actually maintained I would rate it very high but the lack of maintenance I would not golf this course again even if it was $10.
It was an experience
Course looked interesting on line, it was overwhelming at first sight. Most every tee shot was over rough terrain. Having to place your tee shot to spastic areas. For a course like this you need GPS to determine were to hit the ball.
Pros, Fairways in excellent, challenging but fun course, carts had plenty of power (needed it).
Cons, Carts did not have GPS, Sand bunkers in terrible condition, Course in need of general maintenance, Long distance between holes.
Great course in much better state
Compared to few weeks ago, course has almost no animal dung and hog mess all repaired. Great condition 111116
Bunkers
This is a very hard course but I love to play it. It has recently changed ownership and needs some attention to the bunkers and one bridge was out due to rain storms but alternate route was made. My favorite hole is #10 par 4 what I call airball. It's a very high elevated tee. I have played this course about 6 times this year and hope to get one more in before the end of the year weather and time permitted. I hope the new owners fix the bunkers and bridge soon
The Ranch, San Jose
This is the worst golf course I have ever played. I will not return to spend another dollar at this place ever. The food from the clubhouse was good.
The course has a great view is San Jose skyline.
The course was soggy which means no carts on fairways. The rough is in unhitable. Greens have many patches. Ball does not run true.
Needs Help!
Fantastic course, layout and staff. However, as others have mentioned, the course conditions have taken a major nose dive. From what I can gather, boars are in and destroying parts of the course, in particular, parts of the rough are being torn up pretty badly. Most of the greens are in terrible condition. They look damaged from, I don't know, misfertilization? dancing boars? drought? I really have no idea. Now, the bunkers. There is no excuse for the state of the bunkers. They look terrible and they are not being looked after or cared for in any way shape or form. Maybe they are understaffed, again, I don't know the facts.
Just be aware of these items. If you pay full price you may feel you haven't gotten your moneys worth. Pace of play, pro shop/starter courtesy and restaurant were all A+. They told me that they are working with authorities on the go ahead to trap, shoot, fricassee or whatever you do with wild boar. In CA you can't step on a bug without a permit, so there you go. I hope they can get things back on track since it's such a fun course to play. The weakened state of things did take something away from the experience I had, unfortunately....
beautiful and tough
The views are very nice. You have to be very accurate and mentally strong. If you are intimidated by narrow fairways this course isn't for you. If you miss the fairway your ball is rolling down a valley.
