itis a challengeworth taking
the course was in fairly good shape the greens were in good shape pace of play was good I would play there again
Unique Layout. Often can not hit driver off tee due to harsh doglegs.
Unique Layout. Often can not hit driver off tee due to harsh doglegs. On the narrow side in spots. Also there are some rough spots even in the fairway. There is not a real defined fairway. It was very hot. There was no drink cart girl to be seen. However due to the heat (105+) course was wide open. No one in front of us no one behind. Also I scored a hot deal for $14 bucks with cart. I had played the day before and walked for $28. Just trying to get in the swing of things. No pressure for being pushed was very relaxing. I had a great time.
Great Location but needs work!
I would call this "golf au naturale" ... that is to say there really are no fairways here! The greens are nice ... the tees are OK ... but there really are no fairways on the course. It's really ROUGH out there and lumpy and bumpy and very dry. If someone put a lot of money into it and seeded some real fairway grass ... installed a sprinkler system ... etc. it would really be a beautiful and fun course to play! The holes were interesting but there was no such thing as a "good lie" out there. It's golf "roughing-it" style. That said, I did enjoy the round. The scenery was quite nice and there are no houses around the course which is always nice. I do hope someday someone makes a "real" golf course out of it ... it could be a real gem if they did.
Great Value
Had a great time playing this course. Not many people out there so was able to play 2 to 3 balls each hole and get a good amount of practice in. Did catch up to someone on the 10th hole so skipped two holes and then played the rest with no one else in sight. Greens are small and do not hold balls so play balls short and run them up. Incredible value for golfnow rate. I paid $11 with a cart and had a tee time of 12;14. They let me out as soon as I got there. Some very difficult holes requiring precise shots. Par 5's are short so you can score well on this course. Would play again.
Scenic
Very narrow fairways, target golf . Lots of trees red stakes ,yellow stakes blind shots. you would need to play a couple of times so you know where to hit . The greens were fantastic, fun to play, lots of different reads . Here is a hint they break to the creeks. Have fun we did .
good course
Ground was very hsrd. Windy day but calmed doen on the back nine. Fun day all in all.
Quirky start, but pretty straightforward after that.
Course worth playing if you don't have to drive too far. Course in good condition.
Could not be more disappointed...
Had taken visiting relative to play area courses in last week that included Castle Oaks, La Contenta, Bartley Cavanaugh & Wild Hawk (BTW...all nice courses). Our entire foursome was completely disappointed with our experience at Bass Lake. This tract has nice greens and an abundance of potential, but that's where the positives end. There is no reward for hitting the fairways here as it is like playing from a cattle pasture. Every single hole felt like a scramble to survive even the best of shots given the minimal maintenance. The day ended with an apology to my playing partners for suggesting we play this course... never again.
This course has narrow areas near the greens.
This course challenges not only club selection but accuracy. Some tee shots you would have to think about before you pull out the driver or longer clubs so that you can give yourself opportunitiesto score lower. For the beginner I would not recommend this course but for the average golfer that would like to see where they stand overall it is a great test of your ability to make shots and course management.
This course requires a lot more attention...
The fairways have holes all over the place and also not to mention the dying grass... The owner is EXTREMELY CHEAP and very rude.. The staff always appear to be in a bad mood and never smile or give any friendly service.. I would never recommend this course to anyone..
Another great spring time course
Nice course this time of year....still green and nicely maintained. Enjoyed the cool spring temperatures!
Worst experience of my life!!!!!
After 3 miserable hours to play 9 holes, there was a 5 group back-up, on the tenth tee. No Marshall in sight, not that it would have done any good. We don't want to upset the slow players. By the way this weekday. I was so frustrated, I left after 9 holes. I will never go back here again.
Course is not ready for play. No grass, just hard pack and weeds
I was extremely disappointed with the condition of the course. The fairways were very dry, minimal grass, only some weeds. Winter rules may have allowed for using tees the ground was so hard.
This course is a nightmare. I wont be playing here again, ever.
Conditions are okay. Just okay. Play is always slow and no one observes golf etiquette.
This course is over priced and poorly maintained
The fact that this course is in really bad shape, and that the green fees were too much, wasn't even the worst part of this course. Those two things were compounded by horrible customer service from the pro shop to the bartenders. This place needs new ownership and to restart from the ground up.
Hide you kids, hide your wife
This is a unique course. The rough, fairways and tee boxes have something in common, they are the same type of grass and are equally poor in their condition. The name base lake is also poor, it should be called "The Bass died because sewage water is the best we offer". My favorite part of this course is the 8th hole. Not only a nice swamp to hit over, but on the right side of the "fairway" is a convenient landfill to stash whatever you don't want In your cart. The worst part of this course is the greens. The lack of water and maintenance lends itself to not being able to execute an approach shot. Everyone in my group would land the ball on the green and watch it fly off to the rough behind it. The only shot of the day that landed on the green was when the ball was aimed 30 feet to the left of the green and bounced on. Even landing the ball ten feet in front of the green would land you in the rough behind it. Look at the bright side, the only ball that would leave a mark on the green would be a bowling ball dropped from space, and if it did, the only way to mend the mark would be a pitch fork and some super glue. I would rather play with Barbies, a vile full of influenza or a pinless hand grenade than play Bass Lake again.
Quickie but good!
There was a light rain but fast round....2.5 hours. A few dead spots that need grass but overall in fair shape.
I'm a noob, but...
When I played Bass Lake, it was only the 5th round of golf I'd ever played. At this point in my golfing life, I don't know the difference between an 'easy' and 'challenging' course. One thing I can say is that Bass Lake is a ton of fun. The variety of fairway design, length, width, etc. truly made for an enjoyable afternoon.
There were a couple of areas that could have been better maintained (piles of cut branches, etc.), but if I could hit the ball straight every once in a while, I wouldn't have ended up in those areas anyway. All in all, it was a fantastic experience.
Course narrow on many holes which made it difficult to hold shots on dry fairways.
Course was verrry dry. (played in mid October) Ball rolled off the course on some good shots down the middle. Interesting course that would be challenging and fair with more water. I would not recommend this course under current conditions. Maybe during the winter or spring.
This course will challenge your ability to keep the ball in the fairway.
The Bass Lake Golf Course has a great driving range. On Saturday and Sunday you hitt off of grass. Like many courses the weekned rates are too high. Bass Lake is a great course for afternoon round of golf. There are always folks to join up with and enjoy the game of golf.
