About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2017.
The Champions Club at the Retreat was carefully carved from the canyons that surround the Cleveland National Forest. The golf course closely follows the natural contours and depressions of the landscape, providing a variety of elevation changes with which to contend. The undulating greens usually have multiple tiers and the hills and valleys guarantee a few blind shots and forced carries. Your shots won't need length necessarily, but they will need to be straight. Each hole offers not only a unique design thanks to the diverse terrain but also different, equally stunning views. To make this formidable golf course more playable for a wider range of skill levels, a 2011 renovation took out 16 punishing fairway and greenside bunkers but there are still plenty there to provide a challenge.

Course
Challenging course but rewarding when you hit a good shot. Only con would be proshop staff, could of been more friendly an inviting, could of let us know where can obtain food or drinks from clubhouse since first time visiting the course, since was treated like an "outsider" more than likely will not return to course for any business in the future.
Great course only 20 minutes from O.C.
After playing my first round here at the Champions, the first thing I wanted to do was play it again. I had a great time. Beautiful views and a challenging course. Best course in Corona.
Great course condition
Loved it, would do it again but not before 715 if you want food or drinks.....
the bar and food area is owned by a different party. We were there at 7 and the place was still closed. We called for the drink cart, finally showed up at the 17th hole.
If you're here for golf, its perfect..... cocktails or food, wait until after 8am.
This course has very poor conditions
Green was not clean and rolling well
Fairway was not good condition either
Tough but fair
Fantastic view of valley. Tough but fair challenge of your game. Don't have to hit it straight to find fairway, but you do have to play to your swing. Ask starter for tips on course.
this course is scenic and will challenge you if you force your shots.
you must play this course within your handicap means to keep up with pace of play. errant penalty shots will kill you and all the groups behind you. scenic wildlife abounds you will probably see some during your round
Fun
Fun course and challenging. It is in good shape and everyone was friendly. You might want to bring a few extra balls as some of them go missing !!!
Challenging course
A very challenging course for even experienced golfers. I sometimes see high handicappers playing from tips which slows the pace of play. Carts sometimes run out of juice because the hills are so steep.
no wonder it didn't make it as a country club.
The course with all of its blind shots, slopes to snake country is just a lot of elevation changespecially with no purpose. I would not come back. There are toother many course nearby that areally more fun.
2nd time is the charm
You had better have your "A" game when you take this course on. If the elevation changes and fairway obstructions don't get you the tiered greens will test you once you get on them. Excellent test of golf.
black diamond golf
Difficult course. Certainly the most challenging in the inland empire.
Very slow play, no marshall out on course
The course is really nice but the pace was way to slow for us. We quit playing after 5 hours and we only got to the 14th hole.
Over the Top design
This course goes out of it's way to make shots difficult. It's greens are in pretty bad shape and on top of that remind me of mini-golf courses... not in a fun way either. The preponderance of blind shots on every hole gets old very quickly. there are fairways that even when hit perfectly roll off the course entirely to OB, just a ball waster most of the time.
TRStark
If you find the good deals it’s a great value, I wouldn’t pay it’s normal cost. To much for me but worth the value if you can afford it.
I hope to play it again soon with my golf buddies.
ridiculous course
the course is beautiful but impossible. good shots are rarely rewarded instead penalized. fairways hard as a rock and never stop rolling. I won't be playing here again no matter how cheap
Never coming back
This is my first time playing the course, and I can say without a doubt I will not be coming back. Don't get me wrong, I loved the layout and some of the tricky holes, but the greens were probably the worst I've ever played on in my life. I work in the golf industry so I have played at least 500 to 700 courses of my life, and these were the worst greens I've seen. I loved the undulation in the greens, but they are comprised of multiple types of grass that make them very inconsistent and bumpy. I felt like I was playing Plinko all day. I am a scratch golfer, and I had a record breaking 39 putts yesterday while still shooting a 75. Granted the undulation played a part in that, but when 3 foot putts move 6 inches off line due to poor maintenance, it is very tough to score and extremely frustrating! They rolled at a pace similar to shag carpet, which is somewhat ok due to the undulation extremes. It would be tough if they were very fast, but rolling true is something that is the superintendents issue. I would say some changes need to made cause it is turning pontetial customers away. It is sad that a course with so much potential is being maintained like a cow pasture. I wish the course well and hope they can get it together.
Target Golf
Very tough course. Must play target golf. Hit it straight every time or play somewhere else. Nice looking course and surrounding area was nice. Can be very windy as it was for our round.
Bring lots of balls.
All in all, well kept course but tough.
Good luck.
Champions Club
Extremely difficult course, and add to it gusty canyon winds. If you're not a low handicap golfer (less than 10), I wouldn't recommend this course.
Lunch
Ordered a turkey sandwich at turn, waited for over 15 minutes, waitress and cook where not around had to leave before getting food.
I played there the same day... I'm not sure what you mean by poor condition for a $40 course. I play twice a week all over la, ventura and IE... this is by far the best condition course for that price. Just wondering what courses you think is better condition wise for a $40 course around this area. I'd like to try them out. thanks
