U.X.
Open An Extreme-
Terrained Golf Tournament
with a Party Atmosphere
GolfCalifornia.com Staff Report
VERNON, N.J. - Thanks to movies, the entertainment industry, celebrities worldwide and of course, Tiger Woods, golf has started to increase the audience it reaches. More importantly, golf's image is also changing, appealing to more types of people.
Now say hello to the inaugural U.X. OPEN Alternative Golf Championship, which takes the game to new heights by transforming the ski slopes of Mountain Creek resort into the never-been-played, extreme-terrain U.X. Open Championship Course on Saturday, August 21, in Vernon, N.J.
The U.X. Open, like many ideas, came about by chance, when its founder, Rick Ryan, was on vacation but not close to a golf course. A little creativity then led to the idea for what is now Alternative Golf.
U.X. Open golf tests one's golf skills and physical endurance, not existing for the purpose of being different but to accommodate golfers who seek a new type of challenge, one that augment's traditional golf and paves the way for golf's new generation of fans.
At the U.X Open, the slope rating actually is a "slope" rating, and where North America's only Cariolet Gondola provides transportation between holes.
A special set of XGolf rules (like no putting and maximum of 3 clubs) will govern play to combine serious competition with serious fun for 72 adventurous and physically-fit amateur golfers.
Newsweek describes the event as "a cross between a 9-iron
and a black diamond", and event organizers describe it as serious
fun. The day's competition will be filled with music, food, and plenty
of new experiences. This year's top finishers will automatically gain
entrance into next year's televised final, which will feature the high
finishers from a nationwide tour of mountain golf players.
The fun and new experiences do not, however, end with the golf. All competitors and volunteers will be given the chance follow up their adventurous day by cooling down with their free passes to Mountain Creek's large water park. An awards ceremony and post-tournament bash will follow, with U.X. Open participants gaining free admittance into all of the evenings festivities.<>
So, for those who want to take golf to new heights and boldly go where no golfer has gone before, the alternative is now available in the form of the U.X. Open - Alternative Golf Championship, where finishing may be par for the course.
