USGA Awards Additional $75,000 to National Minority Golf Foundation Far Hills, N.J. - The United States Golf Association has awarded an additional $75,000 to the National Minority Golf Foundation for 1999, bringing its total for the year to $125,0000. The USGA has awarded $915,000 to the organization since 1996.
Founded in 1995 and based in Phoenix, Ariz., the non-profit NMGF is an advocacy and resource center that promotes increased minority participation in the game of golf and the business of golf. It offers information and assistance on golf-related projects, scholarships, internships, employment opportunities, as well as junior and collegiate golf and business opportunities.
According
to the NMGF, a record 70 minority golfers participated in national tournaments
last year.
The NMGF evolved from a Golf Symposium series supported by the USGA from 1992-1995. The NMGF, with Barbara Douglas as its president since August 1999, has continued to grow and has gathered the support of leading golf organizations.
