AWARDS GRANTS
TOTALING NEARLY $1 MILLION
Colorado Springs, Colo. - The United States Golf Association has recently awarded 33 grants in 21 states totaling $947,183 through its "For the Good of the Game" program. The states receiving the most grants include California (3), Tennessee (3) and Pennsylvania (3).
Included in these recent grants was the first-ever USGA grant in the state of Alaska. The $30,000 grant will allow the Wrangell Golf Club to extend electric power lines to the golf course. The nine-hole course, with artificial greens and wood-chip fairways, hosts a junior golf program and instructional clinics for women and senior citizens. It is the only golf course for 200 miles south and 500 miles north of Wrangell, Alaska.
A complete list of all 33 grants is attached. For a detailed list of all 1999 grants, including program summaries and contact information, please visit our web site at www.usga.org/about/foundation/index.html. In the first eight months of 1999, the USGA Foundation Grants Program has awarded 104 grants totaling $2,789,843.
These grants target golf programs across the country serving the economically disadvantaged, the disabled and minorities, as well as the construction of facilities created to affordably introduce the game to new audiences.
These grants are part of the USGA's "For the Good of the Game" initiative, a 10-year, $50 million commitment to making golf more accessible and affordable.
In addition to financial support, the USGA Grants Program supports a diverse cross-section of grant recipients with continued assistance in the areas of public relations, fundraising, curriculum development, course access, fiscal planning, and general resources and information.
