Golfer Ron Won to Compete in the PGA's Buick Invitational
The freshman beat
out 100 other players
(Jan. 7, 2000) - Stanford's up-and-coming freshman golfer Ron Won earned the honor of competing as an amateur in the PGA's Buick Invitational on Feb. 10-13 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Calif. Won beat out 100 other hopefuls when he won the qualifier in San Diego on October 6.
Won has competed in three events for the Cardinal, including the Husky Classic at which Stanford took first place. Won shot rounds of 76-74-77 for a total of 227, which earned him a tie for 21st place.

The Buick Invitational's defending champion is former Stanford star Tiger Woods, who shares the tournament record after shooting rounds of 68-71-62-65 for a total of 266 last year. Par for the Torrey Pines course is 72.
The Buick Invitational will be aired on television all four days of competition. On Thursday, Feb. 10 and Friday, Feb. 11 the match will be televised by USA from 1-3 p.m. PST. CBS will air the final two days, Saturday, Feb. 12 and Sunday, Feb. 13, from 1-3 p.m. PST.
