Vallejo GC Wins
Overall Team Match Title

PEBBLE BEACH (Oct. 30, 1999)– Vallejo GC trounced Monterey Bay GC, 25-11 to win the overall championship at the NCGA's Team Match finals Saturday at Poppy Hills GC.

Vallejo got into the championship by beating perennial contender Sacramento GC for the Thursday League title Friday, while Monterey Bay got over Wilcox Oaks in the Saturday League championship. Sacramento and Wilcox Oaks battled to an 18-18 tie in the consolation match Saturday.

Thirty-six points in individual and four-ball matches were available for the overall championship, as well as for Friday's two league championships. In each foursome, six points were available. Two points went to individual match winners and also to each winning four-ball duo.

Vallejo earned five of the six possible points in three matches, getting the contributions from the duos of Robert Brazell and John Brazil; Mike Williams and Frank Peasley; and Malcom Maher and Renny Scollard. Also adding to Vallejo's cause were the teams of captain Tom Wade and Jim Marsh; Noel Doyle and David Kopp; and Ed Pereira and Bill Stout.

Contributing for Monterey Bay were Scott Arnold and Caesar Aldistert; Tommy Goldsmith and Patrick Campbell; Peter Frederiksen and David Robbins; George Vieira and Rich Flocchini; David Hiser and Bob Burt; and Art Jacobs and John Bessenbacher.

"We all fought hard for this," Wade said. "Everyone pulled together and it was just great. We all came down here to have a good time and that's what we ended up doing."

All teams were composed of 12 players. The four teams in the finals were survivors of summer- and fall-long regular season competition made up of an all-time high of 188 teams from the two leagues. Of those teams, 48 advanced to the playoffs, which were held weekly to determine the finalists.
