PEBBLE BEACH Joe Burk Higgins of Pheasant Run GC blazed to a final-round 59 to win the 6th NCGA Net Amateur Championship at Poppy Hills GC.
Higgins, a 24-handicapper came into the final round well back of the lead, but used his hot final round to shoot a 12-under-par 132 and win the overall crown by four shots.
Larry Resler of Tee'd Off GC won the President's Flight (handicap indexes of 9.9 or less) with a 68-70 138. Rick Catalano of Teal Bend GC was second at 71-70 141.
The Director's Flight (indexes of 10.0 to 17.9) title was taken by Don Paul of Bay Area GC, who shot two straight rounds of 68. Mike Sweat of Sir Area 17, Br 80 GC shot 68-70 138 to finish second.
Higgins' overall title made him ineligible for top honors in the Secretary's Flight (indexes of 18.0 or more). That went to Mike Cass of Bay Area Fundsters GC, who shot 68-70 over the two days for a 138. Ronald McIntire of Sacramento GC finished second with a 68-71 139.
