a real view of Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course August 8, 2007, 9:20 am

by andrew peet
After reading the 2005 review of the course I got to thinking. How much did someone pay this guy to write this overstated article.
I recently went on a trip to the fabled Monterey Pennisula. Our first day, we played this course. During the remainder of our trip we played Pebble Beach twice, Spannish Bay twice and Spyglass once. If anyone ever thinks that Pacific Grove could even remotely be compared to Pebble, or Spannish Bay, they would not be correct.
Pacific Grove is a nice little municipal course for old men. The length is not fitting anyone who can hit their tee shot at least 180 yards. The greens were hairy and long and not in great shape. The fairways were hard and ill-manicured. Pebble, Spanish Bay and Spyglass were all in fabulous condition that had breathtaking views of the environment.
If the back nine was lengthed and the greens were totally redone, and if the tees redone, leveled and softened, and if the bunkers had actual sand in them and the fairways were lush, it would still be a second rate course.
We have a course in Baltimore that was built on an old dump that has more character and is in better shape then this dogtrack.
Kent, you need to get some new glasses, contact, or go all out and get some Lasik.

Dear Andrew!
I don´t no if you´re an illiterate or not, but if you´re not read my article again and please tell me were I stated anything overwelming about Pacific Grove. I wrote that it was inexpensive
which is true, short which is true, and that we enjoyed the backnine the most, which is also true. I´ve never compaired Pacific Grove to Pebble.
If I had a big mouth and a lot of money
,which you seem to imply you have, go to Ireland and play Tralee, Lahinch and Balleybunnion like we do over here.
Then maybe you´ll know the real meaning of golf, which certainly isn´t
nice manicured US courses.

I share the same view with Kent, and i did my Lasik too.
I will recommend this course for tourist who will like to play a round of golf at this beautiful place but finds the courses nearby expensive.
When i have more money and better golf skills, Pebble Beach is definitely one of the course i will love to play at.
For readers who want to have a rough guide on how the scenery of the course is like, you can find some of the pictures i took at www.overtherainbowinsg.blogspot.com under 'Golf Pic' label.

Hi!
Me and my wife recently played
Pacific Grove while vacationing
in California.
We´re from Sweden so being able
to play a links course so near Pebble beach for 32$ is a great deal.
The course is rather short and the
outward inland nine holes are lined by
trees.
The back nine are oceanfront, and we enjoyed them the most. Even though it
was very windy.
I especially liked the 12th par five with it´s beautiful view of the Pacific.
If you´re ever in the vacinity don´t miss Pacific Grove.
Kent
