The picture you used for this story and the statment posted below it are very misleading. There are at most 4 oak trees on the course property, but they are mostly for looks unless you hit a really bad shot. Some other trees planted new with the course about 5 years ago are starting to grow, but it will be many years down the road before this can be called a course with trees.

I've played Empire Golf Course several times now, and I am planning another outing in the near future. The course is player friendly, and by that I mean generous fairways and a lot of open spaces. Part of my problem with the course is the shortage of trees on the course. It's nice that you won't get stuck behind any trees, but there is also no shade anywhere to speak of, and that can get quite brutal in the summer months. I'm still not sold on the par 3 finishing hole, although it is nice in the summer when you're exhausted and you only have to muster up one final iron shot. It still seems a little anti-climactic though. Overall, on a scale of 1-10, I'd have to give this course a 7, maybe an 8 if the course is in really great shape, but I haven't seen it in great shape yet. You won't be disappointed here, but don't expect to be wow'd either.

Lived in Folsom for many years, and may well be back in a couple of years. Your golf course was not there then, but am checking it out. You do need, by the way, to check your facts concerning Johnny Cash. As a long time fan of Johnny's and having met him personally, I can tell you that he NEVER DID do time in Folsom Prison! Concerts there? Yes - as an inmate? No. This fable is simply not true, although Johnny did have some problems with at one time. I must say that I hope your "yardage markers" on you course are more accurate than your story about Johnny. Sincerely, Bill Moseley
