Dye was told to make the hardest golf course in the world; some people think he succeeded too well. Still, for the average golfer, this 151-slope-rated monster is one of those must-have experiences on a Palm Springs trip. From the infamous 17th island green to a 16th-hole bunker that's longer than some fairways, this course has it everything -- at least, everything that could punish a golfer.

This is the monster of all monsters, the one that carries so many folktales of golfer terror with it that it should qualify as its own myth. The developers asked Pete Dye to make this "the toughest golf course in the world" and many argue he succeeded. Too well.
The Stadium Course at PGA WEST in La Quinta is one of those tracks that any self-respecting golf nut has to play once. Just to experience it.
