This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Worth going back...
Our first time playing here and we went through all 18 in 3 hours and 15 minutes, as a twosome. The pace was great.
We will be back, but having beers and/or a beverage cart with drinks and snacks would be GREAT.
Photo attached is from the Tee box at the 4yh hole.
Review
I would recommend this course. Fast pace friendly staff
Facilities
Nice course. But be warned no washrooms on the back 9 unless you stop at clubhouse. But they close at 330 so both times we golfed there no washrooms to use when finished our round. And washrooms on front 9 were very disgusting. Not understanding why they can’t remain open for people to stop for a drink etc when they are done
Tough number 3
we have played several times at this course - #3 is always a challenge as it is across 2 bridges and just beside an area of rough. #16 is also across a bridge which is currently out of order requiring a detour.
there was no one in the club house which was locked when we arrived back at 1715 with no directions on where to leave the carts. No easy garbage cans to clean our carts to help out.
They don’t care
Good old bones on a course that is neglected and abused. Maintenance is a joke, the money needed to make this great again is not being spent. Worst conditions I have seen
Needs some TLC
I honestly don't know how they keep this course going...so few people playing, such rough conditions.
We got to the course at least 2o minutes early and we were the only people at the 1st tee.No starter in sight, so we teed off. We got to the 2nd hole then let a single play through. Teed off the 3rd hole and let another single play through. Eventually, 4 singles made a 4some.
This course used to be a great course to play, but it certainly needs work now. The fairways were lacking grass, the greens were bumpy, the bunkers had grass in them and mostly clay. The pace of play was great because not many people were playing.
Bridge is Back!
Course is in fairly good shape. Greens need to mature after treatment.
Fairways nice and green. Need fresh sand in traps.
Muni conditions
Reasonable value but course conditions were fair at best. Sand traps unkept with no rakes. Fairways spotty and greens thin but rolled ok. Overall reminded me of an average muni track. Young ladies in pro shop were friendly but clearly not golfers. They had to call the manager on the phone for help with a reservation (not ours). Get the feeling this course has had financial problems in the recent past. “Now Open” sign was a hint. Were they closed recently?
