Elkins Ranch
The course has an attractive layout and generally pace of play is pretty good. Today's round took me about 3:25. On the down side, the grass on the fairways tends to grab your club, and it takes either getting used to it, or very precise swings.
Course in great condition!
This was not the first time I’ve played this course. It has been ,however, a very long time since I’ve played it.
( probably about 10 to 15 years ago) I was pleasantly surprised how it’s been kept up and actually better than I remember it being. I think that’s a positive experience!

Played the Blues (70.4/121/6306) in 2H, 35M on their twilight special, $19 including a cart. The course was not crowded due to the heat. I zipped around as a single, rarely waiting the entire round. My 1st visit here in slightly over a year.
The tees had good coverage but were average overall. Thin, some bare spots and a few are unlevel, but most divots had been repaired.
The fairways had good coverage and were mostly lush. Good to play from.
The rough was usually lush and PENAL. Elkin's rough is deep for kikuyu. It will grab your club and is very hard to pitch and chip over around the greens.
The sand traps were decent, good quality sand, recently raked. Too many golfers do not rake and leave foorprints even though there are plenty of rakes.
The poa annua greens look nice. They putted medium speed and were bumpy as the ball slowed near the hole. Soft/spongy, they hold iron shots very well.
The customer service was excellent. No drink cart but there are several water stations on the course. Overall, a fun, shorter muni type course that is worth playing as a change of pace. The course is in nice condition, definitely recommended.

Played the Blues (70.4/121/6306) in slightly less than 3H. The weather was partly cloudy, fairly calm and in the 70's. The course was not crowded and I zipped around as a single, barely waiting a shot the entire round. The Poa Annua greens were at most medium speed and somewhat bumpy. They were soft/spongy and hold iron shots very well. The Kikuyu fairways have some sporadic bare spots, more thin than lush but have good coverage overall. The Kikuyu rough is definitely more lush than the fairways. While mowed low, it will still grab your club and is very hard to pitch and chip over around the greens. The sand traps have good quality sand, recently raked, decently maintained. The Kikuyu tees were thin in spots spots, A few were unlevel, but not that many recent divots. It just looked like they needed more watering? The customer service was excellent, no drink cart but there are several water stations on the course. This is a fun, shorter muni type course that is worth playing as a change of pace if it's at a good rate.

Played the Blues (70.4/121/6306) in 2h, 45m on their B-Day special, $15 including a cart. (Green fee free, cart fee required). Thanks Elkins Ranch! The poa annua greens were medium to medium slow speed and bumpy as the ball slowed near the hole. Soft/spongy, they hold iron shots very well. The fairways were more thin than lush with sporadic bare spots. The rough was more lush than thin, definitely more lush than the fairways. The kikuyu is not tall, but it will grab your club and is very hard to pitch and chip over around the greens. It will grab your chip shots like velcro if you land just short of the greens here. The sand traps were okay, good quality sand, recently raked. Too many golfers do not rake here however. The tees were below average. Thin, some bare spots and a few are unlevel, but not that many recent divots. The customer service was excellent, the course was not crowded and I zipped around as a single, never waiting a shot the entire round. No drink cart but there are several water stations on the course. My 1st visit here in slightly over a year. Overall, a fun, shorter muni type course that is worth playing as a change of pace if it's at a good rate.

Walked the blues (6306/70.4/121) 3h, 30m on their super twilight rate of $16. Played with Winnie, who was a really good player & fun to play with. I have never played with a senior lady who played the white tees and more than occasionally made pars! She was also remarkable for another reason... she played 72 holes today!
Overall, the course is much improved over the last time I played here a couple of months ago. The greens were medium speed and putted well, a little bumpy as the ball slowed near the hole.
The fairways were more thin than lush but had good coverage, very playable.
The rough was more lush than thin. The kikuyu is not tall, but it will grab your club and is very hard to pitch and chip over around the greens. It will grab your chip shots like velcro.
The sand traps were decent.
The tees were OK, many had recent divot repair spots.
The customer service was excellent, the course was not very crowded for a Friday afternoon. No drink cart but there are several water stations on the course. Overall, a fun course that is worth playing if in the area as a change of pace for a good rate.

The poa annua greens were a little bumpy as the ball slowed near the hole. I would call them medium speed but they putted well overall. However, I find the extremes greater on this course. Uphill putts seem to need an extra gear here while downhill putts on several pins were either make it or putt back up the hill from the fringe on your next putt.
The fairways were very playable, probably more thin than lush but had good coverage.
The rough was more lush than thin, definitely more lush than the fairways. The kikuyu is not tall, but it will grab your club and is very hard to pitch and chip over around the greens. It will also grab your chip shots like velcro.
The sand traps were decent, recently raked.
The tees were OK, many had recent divot repair spots. Several blue tees were moved up today.
The customer service was excellent, the course was not as crowded as I expected for a weekend. No drink cart but there are several water stations on the course. Overall, a shorter muni type course that is fun and worth playing as a change of pace if it's at a good rate.
