Going to miss Elkins Ranch
Love this course! Well-kept & classy. Nice facilities too.
Respect and thanks ...
Respect and thanks to the course owners and managers! I played Elkins Ranch today for the many fond memories before they close forever in September. I used to be a member of their men's club, but due to injury, it's been 10 years or so since I last played the course. Many businesses that are closing may let the place go, but the course was in great ccondition! This shows me that the Elkins folks really respect, love and care for their clientele. Kudos and thanks!
Great coarse
Elkins is a great coarse to play. Too bad it is closing the end of month and going to be a alvacado orchid
Nice, Country Course, Closing Soon
Played here for the first time this week, in hot weather with fire in the air. Course is not long, but would be tough to walk in hot weather with lots of up and downs, especially on back nine. People were doing it though. Must have been carrying a lot of water. The course is literally on Elkins Ranch, hence the name. The plan is to plow it all under soon and plant avocado toast, I mean trees. Well worth coming and playing it before it disappears. Its nothing fancy but its pretty unique in SoCal. It feels like a classic country course w/o complicated architectural design or pedigree, like you might see in other parts of the country away from cookie cutter resort courses. Even the grass is different - no Kikuyu. I hit a shot out of clover. Felt bad for the grass. Its surrounded by orchards and holes go along and up and down the adjacent hills. There are a few ponds that can catch a ball, particular on the back nine. Holes on the back have some nice views out over the valley. Feels kind of stuck in time in this agricultural area, even though it is so close to the burbs. Nice to play in the evening which culminates in a pretty sunset. Also a pretty drive to Fillmore from other parts of SoCal. Just beware the heat. Compared to the local competition the green fees are a titch high, so search for a deal. Otherwise I would play here more often.
Last round at Elkins
Being playing here since the 80s just played my last round thanks for all the great times it’s been a pleasure. Good luck to Elkins ranch!!!
Sad to see her go
Had to get in one last round before they close forever. Been playing here for over 30 years. I hope they grow good avocados off of this land...
Final round!!!
sad to see it go...wanted to play one last time!!
Good luck to the Owners ....
Thanks
Last round
The course played pretty well today. Some of the fairways were a little drier than normal. The tee boxes were in good shape. The greens were true but surprisingly slow. The weather was perfect and the pace of play was good. We finished our round in four hours. It was pleasant.
Elkins Ranch
Walked the Blues (70.4/121/6306) for $31 with t8fish in 4H. We were matched up with Pat/Bill for 9, who ironically used to work with Kevin back in the day. Thanks Kevin for driving up and a fun round even if we both played mediocre! Course was crowded on a beautiful day with the temps around 85.
Fun course in nice condition, really sorry that this course is closing soon. Made a special trip to get in a last round before it closes. Elkins offers some nice views and is not too taxing. Many fairways are unusually wide for a course of this length. Mature trees line almost every fairway and three large lakes can come into play on about half the holes are the main sources of trouble. Almost no homes visible from the vast majority of holes is a +.
Tees were at best average. Most had okay coverage, but between the tee markers they were often thin and a few are unlevel. Several also needed divot repair.
Fairways were mostly lush and had very good coverage. Good to play from.
Rough was deep for kikuyu. Tough to hit both full shots and chip out of.
Sand traps have decent quality sand but were not well raked.
Greens look really nice, lush and green looking. However, they have such a cushion that they tend to get bumpy late in the day as the poa annua blooms. Soft/spongy, they hold iron shots very well but putted medium slow speed. Seemed even slower having played on firm, quick greens @ Soule Park in the morning.
Customer service was excellent, quick efficient check-in. No on course services with COVID-19. Sad to see this course go, many nice memories on this course and it was an excellent collection of fun holes to play. Recommended.
Golf at Elkins Ranch
The course is in fantastic shape. Elkins has always been one of my favorite courses.
It’s a travesty that it’s closing...
Fun and Challenging course
Started at 5pm played the Front 9 and a few back 9 holes.
Will come back to play 18 in the near future.
Great course
Sad to hear they're going out of business at the end of the summer. Greens were perfect. Course is in great condition. Fun course.
My Favorite Course
This was a wonderful golf course. I was a member of the mens club for 25 years. Very sad to see it go :(
