what a shame
I played here a month ago and said I'd be back. I didn't think it would be so soon or because they were going to be closing the course permanently on April 1. Right now maintenance is minimal but the course is still playable. The rough is growing out and its easy to lose a ball. The greens are healthy but the way they are being cut makes them inconsistant. The fairways are receiving little if any attention. It's sad to see this fine old course die a slow death like this. We can only hope that this is not the start of a trend for County golf courses.
Too bad it's closing!!!
It's shame this course is closing. Now that they opened it up the public it has to shut down. Will miss this local course for it's ease of getting to and great GolfNow pricing.
Good
The course is very fair. The fairways are not in great shape, but the green are in great shape. I would play it again.
closing in april So none of it is kept up
I nay give it two stars because it looks like it could be nice if they kept it up. there was fungus everywhere traps not raked, greens different speeds because they didn't cut them all at once. Do not go to this course it is going to be closing sometime in april and they just don't care about it anymore. It was a waste of my 35$ when there are many courses I could have gone too
Fun Course, greens nice, fairways a little patchy
I like this course alot. The only problem is rumor has it the course is shutting down in April. So if you want to try it out do it soon
good lay out
The staff was very friendly. Was able to pair me up with two gentemen and had a great expierence.
Nice layout, ample options to appeal to all levels.
Range not maintained well I think some of the balls in my basket were well into their retirement years. I really think they should not have been an additional charge.
Greens were in great shape as were most fairways but that is pretty normal for this time of year.
Great prices deals, I will come back.
Pleasant surprise
Hadn't gotten around to playing this course since I never heard anything good about it. Big mistake. This is a really interesting old style track with some elevation changes. The ninth hole doesn't come back to the clubhouse. The fairways are patchy and a few holes are cartpath only due to overseeding but no worse than most of the other non-resort courses this time of year. The greens were good. The pro shop was the only thing open which is a shame because they have an impressive clubhouse which is all but shuttered. Solid course. I'll be back.
Average
Played as a single and couldn't meet up with anyone to share the experience so that made it a bit boring. Not much interaction with staff but seemed business like. Pro shop was lacking life, it felt very outdated and cold. Course was in decent shape with dormant grass starting to make a comeback. Fairway grass is very thin with numerous bare spots throughout fairways. Greens are always in good+ condition as was the case today. Pace of play was refreshing getting in just under 4 hrs. Overall was good day, should get better with the spring weather.
Old country club needs attention
Greens were good, no merchandise in pro shop (telling that the course is having $ issues), but for the price on line with Golf Now overall it was good+.
Finer courses not far away
The asian kid that worked at the counter had an attitude. We were 30 min early so waited to tee off at tee box #1. After 25 min (of nobody going) a twosome tees off. 7min to tee time. Here comes counter boy with a R11 in his hand. He wacks it and gets in a cart. I say, " Are we good to go in 3 minutes?" He says, " Just go after me." That's how it started.
This place reminds me of some of the old munis you see in the Phoenix area. Only they cost 1/4 of what it does here. Fairways were burned up, crabgrass, weeds, unattended greens, worn-out ball washers, no bev cart for a Friday afternoon round. This place has seen better days.
The course was in good shape and we enjoyed the round.
The pace of play was slow. We never saw a martial. There was a particular foursome which was 2 groups ahead of us who seemed to be the cause of the problem and there were at least 2 empty holes in front of them. Eventually, the foursome in front of us played through and two holes later, so did our twosome. There were only 3 holes left to play by then. But overall, it was still an enjoyable day and the course was in good contition.
Excellent course. Great value for the money.
This is a par 70 and it plays all of its yardage. The holes are well designed. Greens were in excellent shape. Greens are well guarded by bunkers that are in great condition. Fairways were dormant with various grasses. However, unlike other dormant courses, the fairways are farily thick / lush. Not much roll due to dormant grasses. Practice range is small but in good shape. Best of all - you can walk. Very walkable. Two hilly areas. I am definitely planning on returning. The course/club is under a new management group - Touchstone. They have done a great job on greens and bunkers and looking for more.
Greens are in good shape but fairways could use overseeding. Couse layout is interesting and relatively challenging especially on par 3s.
Overall at the prices available through Golf Now this course is a good value. If one had to pay going weekday rates I believe it would be a disappointment for most. Entire facility is in need of TLC and improvements which seems to be the case with most courses today.
greens in great shape
this course isn't long, but the greens are tricky and well taken care of. we played in 3 hours and nobody was on the whole back 9. i think someone just bought the course, so we'll see if they keep it up.
Old style course, good bunkering, fast greens with some slope,
They need to marshal it better but overall good experience
Solid value
We played early Sunday morning (Threesome with carts). We almost froze to death, but the round only took 3 1/2 hours. The greens were in good shape. The fairways were average, but there are no good fairways in the winter. The staff was very friendly. I had never played the course before, and was a little apprehensive after reading some of the negative reviews on Yelp. However, we all had a good time, and would play the course again. A good value for $39 with carts.
Good variety of holes
Had course to my self as it was raining all day, course was in good shape, greens were in great shape, had fun despite weather
Could use a little TLC
The only saving grace about the course was that the greens were in fairly good condition. If the fairways got the same attention, we would be looking at a fun course to play. It's very wide open, grip-and-rip. I would say the quality is like Double Tree.
~ Pace of play was actually 4:30, but the review doesn't have that selection available.
Nov 2012- greens in good shape, fairways not so much
Lots of bare spots and areas in fairways, may be normal for this time of year. Irrigation was going on. Greens in fairly good shape.
